This tomato and basil salad is the perfect summer salad. It's just a few ingredients, but packed with a clean and fresh taste thanks to the ripe cherry tomatoes and just picked basil.
It's simple enough to pack up for a nice picnic, but versatile enough to be a side at the family barbecue.
This is not really a recipe, so I won't force any type of instructions and tips on you. I eat tomatoes like apples, i.e. without any condiments or enhancers, but the tomatoes do make the perfect carrier for the deliciousness of the buttermilk salad dressing. I don't know what's up, as I can't tell if it's the tomatoes or the dressing I'm addicted to. I do know they compliment each other well.
Pair this salad with any main dish protein like smoked jerk chicken or a vegetable steak option like any of the following:
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I use regular tomatoes?
For sure! Tho I find the burst you get from the compact juicy cherry tomatoes lovely, sliced tomatoes work just as great. Just season them up a bit with some salt and black pepper.
What other ingredients can I jazz this up with?
Grilled corn, peaches, and mozzarella cheese make great additions. I will even grill the peaches on occasions which is next level.
