Enjoy this fresh take on classic buttermilk ranch dressing. It's perfect on salads or as a dip for crunchy vegetables.
This recipe has sort of a Cuban vibe to it, as it's heavy on garlic and citrus, but still maintains that tangy, tart flavor you find in buttermilk dressings. It's creamy too thanks to the secret ingredient, Mexican Crema, which also adds another level of flavor.
The dressing is next level; you put it on anything and it will make you wanna get down with whatever ingredient you enhance it with.
What is Mexican Crema?
Mexican Crema is similar to sour cream, but thinner and contains more sweetness. The most noticeable difference for me is it's higher fat content which gives it a much richer taste. I typically use it more as a finishing touch on typical Tex-Mex dishes like burritos and enchiladas.

Serving Suggestions
This dressing works on any lettuce based salad you'd normally put ranch on including a Cobb, Southwestern, tomato, or grilled Romaine Salad. I also dunk my favorite veggies (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower) or chicken wings in this delicious dressing.
Flavor Tips
- If you can get your hands on sour oranges they work well in this dressing in place of the OJ and lime juice.
- For more flavor, go heavy on the seasoning particularly with the garlic and oregano
- Don't be afraid of adding some heat to the dressing as the crema will balance things out
- Let the dressing sit overnight for the flavors to gel even more
This is a great condiment and extremely versatile like many of my preferred sauces including zhoug, vegan crema sauce, roasted red pepper, and peanut sauces.
