"Alright" Easy Air Fryer Chicken Sandwich

These air fryer chicken patties are my new thing. They make for great chicken sandwiches on those busy weeknights when you want to get great food on the table quickly.

This is the hamburger equivalent of taco Tuesday. A quick, filling meal that can be made with many ingredients you’re likely to already have on hand.

Few ingredients are needed to make the patties. And though the tahini-based sauce will undoubtedly be a big hit in your house, the patties are well seasoned with harissa sauce and spices.

Ingredients Needed For Air Fryer Chicken Patties

  • Ground Chicken
  • Paprika
  • Salt 
  • Pepper
  • Panko Bread Crumbs
  • Egg
  • Harissa
  • Mayonnaise
  • Tahini
  • Mango Chutney
  • Pickles
  • Arugula
  • Hamburger Buns

How To Make Chicken Patties In Air Fryer (Step by Step)

Make The Chicken Patties

Place the ground chicken in a large mixing bowl. Add ¼ cup of the panko, plus the egg, 1 tablespoon harissa, and seasonings. Mix well and set aside.

Divide the mixture into 3-4 parts depending on how large you want the patties.

Form the patties with each and gently roll in the reserved panko bread crumbs until well coated. Add additional crumbs as needed or desired. Set aside.

Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F. 

Add the patties and cook 4-5 minutes per side depending on the thickness of the patties.

Make the Sauce

Mix the mayo, tahini, remaining harissa, and chutney in a medium mixing bowl. Add water and mix in enough until desired consistency is achieved. I went for ketchup level consistency. Set the sauce aside until ready to dress the chicken sandwich.

Assemble the Chicken Sandwiches.

Spread sauce on the bottom bun. 

Layer the chicken Patty on top then add the pickles and arugula.

These chicken patties aren’t your basic ordinary patties. They got heat, soul, and flavor but at the same time are very soothing, which is how I would describe Rhonda Nicole’s “Alright.” The voice is hella soothing and the beat is soulful.

Cooking Considerations and Tips For Making Chicken Patties In An Air Fryer

Aim to make the patties roughly the same size/thickness and try not to make them too thick or they won't cook through properly.

Allow the ground chicken to come to room temperature before cooking. This ensures even cooking throughout the patties.

Spray your hands with cooking spray to prevent the ground chicken from sticking to your hands during the shaping of the patties

Depending on how many patties you decide to make you'll need to cook one or two at a time. Keep the cooked patties warm (180 degrees F) in the oven while you finish cooking the others.

Top your sandwich according to your preferences. I like simple pickles and arugula. But pickled red onions would be great as well as a nice collard greens slaw.

The sauce is everything! Use it for a lot of things including as a dip for grilled okra, topping for fish sandwiches, or sauce for grilled veal chops

Pair this sandwich with homemade fries, roasted carrots, microwave corn on the cob, or smashed cucumber salad.

Does this recipe work for other types of meat like turkey?

Yes you can substitute ground turkey in the recipe. You'll probably need to make slight tweaks to prevent dry turkey burgers. You could plus up the harissa or add some fat like ricotta cheese.

Can You Make This Air Fryer Chicken Sandwich with Frozen Patties?

You can, but they won't be nearly as flavorful as making your own according to this recipe. To cook frozen patties you'll just need to add an extra 2 minutes cook time.

Love that you've added harissa to the chicken patties. It's been one of my favourite hot sauces since trying it first in Tunisia years ago! I definitely want to try these chicken patties. They sound really good and perfect for a weeknight TV dinner!
